It was a very successful weekend for the UWEC Men's Club Hockey team this past weekend, with the Blugolds getting their first sweep of the season against Winona State University. Friday night's game proved to be not too difficult as the Blugolds beat Winona with a final score of 8 - 3. Saturday night's game proved to be more of a contest as Winona came out with a chip on their shoulder, taking the Blugolds by surprise and keeping the game close at 3 - 2 going into the 3rd period. Shortly into the third period, during a Blugolds penalty, Winona scored tying the game up at 3 all. After dominating the play throughout the entire game but not producing, the Blugolds took that as a wake up call and scored 4 unanswered goals to end the game with a score of 7 - 3. While the Blugolds may have been a little sloppy on the penalty kills (letting Winona go 3 for 5 on the weekend), they managed to come away with the much deserved sweep.
The team has this upcoming Halloween weekend off and then will travel to Milwaukee to start their string of road games. Special thanks to everyone that came out to the games at Hobbs the last couple weekends!
