The Blugolds looked to rebound against the University of Minnesota. Last year
these two teams split in a spirited series at Minnesota’s Mariucci Arena. Game one
started off with the Gophers gaining the quick advantage early in the first
which brought some life to the Blugolds. Four minutes later freshmen Brad
Boldenow threw a pair of goals in thirty seconds apart. UWEC poured it on
gaining a four to one advantage after one. Then a lull in the second
period allowed the Gophers back in the game. The Gophers scored three and Brad
Boldenow got his third and the hat-trick shorthanded. It was now a one goal game
at five to four advantage Blugolds. An untimely high sticking penalty on Luke
Pandow gave the Gophers the power play they needed to knot things up at five a
piece. The Blugolds would gain the man advantage later in the third and
defenseman Marcus Surita ripped the game winning goal home and Blugolds pulled
off the six to five victory.
Game two of the series the Blugolds started on
fire. Goals from Jon Roessler, Andy Mlynar, and a pair from Dillon Gavazzoni put
the Blugolds up four to one after the first. Then the snake bitten second
started and the Gophers clawed their way back into the game outscoring the
Blugolds four to zero. After two the Gophers had the lead. The Blugolds bounced
back and knotted things up with a power play goal from Marcus Surita. And the
game winner came moments after when the Boldenow brothers connected and younger
brother Brad banged home the game winner from Ben. Blugolds sweep winning the
second game six to five.
