Over the weekend the UWEC Men's Club Hockey team traveled to Milwaukee for their first full away series this year. The team started out strong in the first game Friday night, coming out to a 4-0 lead after the first period. Blugolds let up a little bit in the scoring department in the 2nd and 3rd period but played very well defensively and ended the game with a 6-1 win.
Saturday night turned out to be a rough game from start to finish. A slow start coupled with a number of penalties turned into a 1-0 lead for Milwaukee heading into the second. After finally being able to get some offense going after a long string of killing penalties Jon Roessler opened up the scoring for the Blugolds in the second period scoring 2 goals in under a minute. That seemed to be the spark the Blugolds needed as Nick Adams picked up his first of the year and Jack Hoffman added another goal late in the 3rd. When playing 5 on 5 the Blugolds controlled the play very well and took advantage of their chances, but their chances were limited due to spending about half of the game in the penalty box. Penalty kill was excellent for the Blugolds killed off every power play Milwaukee could throw at them, including two 5 minute major penalties. While the game was pretty chippy at times, it was a hard fought game by both teams with UWEC coming away the victors with a score of 4 - 1.
Now the Blugolds are looking forward to traveling to Duluth, MN this weekend to take on the Bulldogs of University of Minnesota - Duluth!
